Frequently Asked Questions

We commonly use general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia (spinal/epidural), peripheral nerve blocks and local anaesthesia, depending on the surgery and patient profile.

The choice depends on the type and duration of surgery, your age, medical history, investigations and overall fitness. The anaesthesiologist will explain the options and recommend the safest and most suitable technique.

Some patients may experience mild nausea, vomiting, throat discomfort, drowsiness or shivering after general anaesthesia. These are usually temporary and managed with appropriate medicines.

Throughout the procedure, we continuously monitor heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, ECG, breathing and other vital parameters using modern multi-parameter monitors. An anaesthesiologist remains with you throughout.

General anaesthesia usually wears off shortly after surgery is completed, but some drowsiness may persist for a few hours. Spinal or epidural anaesthesia typically lasts 2–4 hours, depending on the drugs used.

You should remain nil by mouth (no food or water) for the duration advised (usually 6–8 hours), inform the anaesthesiologist about all medicines, allergies, previous surgeries, health issues and bring all recent reports and prescriptions.
